FAQ: Fixing Patron Bidding Errors

Question: Let's say a guest accidentally bid $250 for an item and only wanted to bid $25. Can an administrator adjust that?

Answer: The system won't let a person bid more than 4x the current bid, but should they make a mistake, an admin can delete the current high bid for any item, any patron.  The most common cause of bidding errors is a person upping their own bid, but there is a (recommended) setting to prevent that.

Instructions:

  1. During the Auction: From the auction dashboard left-side menu >> Patrons >> search and locate the person in question and pull up their profile >> top right has a VIEW CURRENT ORDER button >> select the item and delete bids as needed. DELETE MAX-BIDS FIRST (if any) then delete the bid in question.  Donations and Multi-sale items can be deleted directly by clicking the trash can - Silent Auction items are reviewed by clicking on the edit icon, then deleting the highest bid.  See screenshot #1 and #2 below.
  2. After the Auction Closes (but before invoices are paid): From the auction dashboard left-side menu >> Invoices >> locate the person in question and pull up their invoice page >> void the item in question (garbage can icon).  The invoices will be regenerated with the new total amount, or null if no items remain against the patron's account.  See screenshot #3 below.
  3. After the Auction Closes (but after invoices are paid):  It is not possible to edit items purchased once invoices have been paid by credit card.  However, you can still refund the patron from your Stripe dashboard (e.g. log out of MobilBid and log into your Stripe account.)  If the patron has paid by cash or cheque, it is possible to refund the payment, then void an item and then record the payment again.

Note: Best to correct errors before auction closing, as it will revert to the second highest bidder. If you do it after closing it will void the bid and no one wins it.
