FAQ: How can a patron stay "logged in"?
Question: A guest has asked if there is a way to remain "logged in." They noted that when she clicks on the emailed link, it asks her to input her phone number or email each time. Will this be the same for everyone throughout the live auction?
Answer: We highly recommend the primary method of self-registration be through the use of patrons texting the designated local phone number (e.g. as displayed on the auction dashboard within the Auction Login section.)
- Patrons will remain logged in as long as they don't "log out". Typically they close their browser (rather than minimize it) and lose their place, but are not logged out.
- The easiest way to re-discover the auction is to text from their cell phone to the local number, receive back a new link, click the link and be placed directly into the auction. This works because their number is recognized by MobilBid as a registered patron, so it is safe to issue a direct link to that cell phone number. Links are unique to each person - they are one-time use only, and cannot be shared, which prevents the wrong person from accessing another person's account and placing bids in error, and possibly having a credit card charged with wrong items.
- The URL method of accessing the auction requires an extra step - they must indicate their email or cell number and receive a unique link back to the matching contact point on file, then click on the one-time link to be placed in the auction.
- An administrator can include the merge tag %{magic_link_url} in the email or SMS body text of a custom message template, which will send them a new unique (one-time use) link to access the auction without having to register again.
TIP #1: Patrons can stay logged in by not closing their web browser (only minimizing it.)
TIP #2: If they lose their place, text to the designated phone number for the auction to receive a direct link to get back into the auction.
