FAQ: Raffle Tickets
Question: Can I use MobilBid to sell raffle tickets?
Answer: Raffle tickets are a grey area, and have some complications:
You need a lottery license to run a raffle - obtainable from the local municipality that you are running the raffle in.
1. You can use the MULTI-SALE item type to offer "payment for a raffle ticket" (e.g. a fixed price per ticket, a large number available at that price.) Patrons can choose to buy one, two or as many as they wish. You can limit the purchase to one ticket per person.
2. You want to end the auction BEFORE the raffle draw, so that all payments are collected, and you have included all purchases in the draw.
3. You'll need to print out, or create by hand a "ticket stub" for each ticket purchased (e.g. if a person buys 10, you'll need to create 10 "stubs" with their name or phone number on it - some unique identifier.). These all get put into a bowl or container in preparation for the draw.
4. The draw is made by hand - the winner (or winners) are drawn and announced.
Some clients find it easier to do it the old-fashioned way - use a spool of paired paper tickets with matching numbers, and accept cash only - give one stub to the purchaser and put one stub in the container - the unique numbers on each pair are used to identify the winners.
