FAQ: Suggested Starting Bids and Minimum Increments

Question: What would you recommend as starting bids and minimum increments for items?

Answer: We suggest starting bids at approximately 25% of the retail value of the item, but rounded up or down to the nearest $10, $25 or $50 (depending on the retail value.) We recommend minimum increments be approximately 10% of the starting bid, and rounded up or down to the nearest $5, 10, or $25 (depending on the retail value.)

Note: We do not recommend using starting bids at $1 and minimum increments of $1 - it generally results in many bids, but rarely gets close to the retail value of an item. It is undervaluing the item and bidders usually will not compete to get the most money for the charity.
