FAQ: "Invalid or Expired Link" Error Message
Question: One of my patrons keeps getting this message on their screen when trying to login to the auction: "Invalid or expired link. Please try logging in again."
Answer: There are three scenarios that may cause this:
- Scenario #1: Reusing the same private link. The links sent by MobilBid in SMS and email invitations/notifications are use and time limited (for security and privacy, to prevent them being shared.) If the link has been used, it will not work again. If not used within a few hours it will expire and not work - the solution is to request a new link, either by texting the phone number, or submitting an email or cell number through the listed URL.
- Scenario #2: Cookies disabled in the patron's web browser. MobilBid places a cookie to track user logins - Web browsers have cookies on by default, so turning them on should solve the problem.
- Scenario #3: Rewritten links by email software. Microsoft Office 365, with MS Defender Safelinks enabled (to assess embedded links for phishing) will trigger one-time use, such that when the patron clicks on the link it has already been used. In addition, in emailed invitations, Safelinks will have "clicked" the unsubscribe option - locking out further requests for new login links for that person. The solution is to have the IT department which manages O365 add https://mobilbid.co/* to the Do not rewrite the following URLs list
Once logged into an auction, a patron will remain logged in until they logout, or fully close their browser. Generally, with standard default settings, minimizing the web browser will not log them out.
The best way for patrons to access the auction again is for them to text to the dedicated phone number assigned to your auction. Failing that, submitting their email or mobile phone number to the form accessed by the URL assigned to your auction will work.
